The Minister
I routinely post responses to questions on the Internet. One day I received
a telephone call from a local minister who was waiting for a liver transplant.
He said that while searching the Internet for transplant information he
noticed in my post that I lived in a nearby city. He and his wife were so
anxious to speak with someone who had been through the transplant experience
that he immediately picked up the phone and called me. He volunteers to
participate two days later in videotaped interviews we were conducting for
Transplant Central. That day I introduced him and his wife to other transplant
patients who were able to answer some of their questions, which comforted
them in knowing that he was not alone.
Later I invited them to a Christmas party hosted by one of the local support
groups and introduced them to the members. For the first time he learned
that he could receive a "living transplant", a portion of a liver
from a living donor. Armed with that knowledge he explored that option and
received his transplant.
